Instructions :

Materials

50 straws of 25 cm length.

Cello Tape

Glue (only fevicol to be used)

Stapler if required

Tape or stapler should be used only on the joints and junctions of the straws and not on its entire length.

Taping the entire Roadway is not allowed.

Compulsory event for all the First Years.

Dimensions

Width=8 to 10 cm

Total length=40 cm max

Total height= 15 cm max above the support.

Roadway: 3cm max thickness (vehicle/ box of 15cm x 8cm dimensions must be able to pass through the entire length of the bridge with no obstruction).

Duration

60 minutes for building the bridge

Rules

A team should consist of maximum 5 members.

Tape or stapler should be used only on the joints and junctions of the straws and not on its entire length.

Taping the entire Roadway is not allowed.

Loading conditions:
The load will be applied vertically at the center of the bridge
The load will be applied directly to the roadway.

Support:
Support will be provided for the bridge to sit on.
Supports will be placed 30 cm apart.

Weight:
If there is a tie, bridge having minimum weight will be considered as the winner.

Judging Criteria

Round 1 (qualification round)

Bridges failing to meet the given dimensions or failing to abide by the above rules will be disqualified

Round 2 (Load and Look Test)

Judges will give marks out of 100 for the overall aesthetics of the bridge. These marks will be then added to the maximum load the bridge takes before collapsing.

The bridge with higher total points will be declared as the winner.

Eg:- Marks for looks – 70
Total load taken- 1100gm
Total points – 1100+70=1170

NOTE

Judges decision will be final and no objections will be entertained after the declaration of the results.

Instructions

Compulsory event for all the First Years.

Only straws will be provided.

Not necessary to use all the straws.

The team leaders will be added to a Whatsapp group where all the other instructions and queries regarding the event will be answered.

Vehicle/ box must be able to pass through the entire length of the bridge with no obstruction.
